Laguna, Zamorsky Earn NJAC Weekly Honors
Pitman, N.J. (5/22/12) – Seniors Dylan Laguna and Ryan Zamorsky were selected as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Laguna earns the final NJAC Player of the Week selection after hitting .500 (8-for-16) with three doubles, two triples, three RBI, and six runs scored in four NCAA Tournament Regional wins that propelled Kean to its fifth NCAA National Championship Series appearance in the past six seasons. He opened the regional by going 4-for-5 with a double, two triples, a stolen base, three RBI, and two runs scored in a 9-3 win over Drew. One day later, he went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored in a 12-4 victory over Alvernia.
Laguna, who earned a spot on the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional All-Tournament Team for his play in the four games combined, currently ranks tied for fifth in the NJAC in triples (3).
Zamorsky earns the final NJAC Pitcher of the Week selection, becoming the fourth different Cougar hurler to claim the weekly honor, after leading Kean to a key 2-0 NCAA Regional win over top-seeded Keystone. He surrendered just five hits over nine innings of work while striking out five and walking just one for his school-record tying 10th victory of the season. The 2012 NJAC Pitcher of the Year, he was named the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament Most Outstanding Player after delivering the complete game shutout.
Zamorsky currently leads the NJAC in both victories (10) and earned run average (0.92).
