Hopman's Complete Game Leads Baseball Over MSU, 3-1

Union, N.J. (4/13/17) – Sophomore Tyler Hopman tossed a complete game in helping the Kean University baseball team to a 3-1 win over visiting Montclair State University on Thursday afternoon.

Hopman improved to 5-2 on the season as he allowed just seven hits and one walk with one unearned run in the under two hour contest.

The Cougars (18-10, 4-3 NJAC) pushed across a single run in the sixth as rookies Frank LoGuidice and Derek Walker singled with one out with put runners on the corners.  Catcher Brian Cole lofted a sac fly to make it 1-0.

The Red Hawks (8-15, 2-4 NJAC) evened the game right up in their next at-bat as Mike Muentener reach on an error to start the inning and came around to score on a two-out single from Ryan Long.

In the bottom of the same inning Kean took the lead for good as Jim Fitzgerald reached on a throwing error with one out.  Frank Urso walked to put runners on first and second and after a pitching change, Mike Fidanza singled for the go-ahead RBI.  The Cougars added insurance as LoGuidice (pictured left) tallied an infield hit for the 3-1 advantage.

Michael Manfra (1-4) suffered the loss for the Red Hawks after allowing three runs, two earned, and five hits in six and third innings of work.

The two teams will be back at it tomorrow at Yogi Berra Stadium beginning at 1p.m.
