Union, N.J. (3/4/18) – The Kean University baseball team edged the University of Scranton by the final of 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
The win culminates the Cougars pre-spring break schedule as Kean (6-3) will enjoy a short break before heading to Florida later this week.
Kean picked up single runs in the second and third frames as Andrew Ferrara doubled home Matt Krupa who reached on a single and Nick Polizzano lofted a sac fly scoring Chris Vetter who walked to start the inning.
The Royals (0-1) scratched across a run in the fourth as Kevin Haag started off the inning with a single. Two batters later Ian McIntosh lined a double to right to put both runners into scoring position. Conner Harding grounded out for an RBI and the only run of the day.
Junior Tyler Hopman picked up his second win of the year tossing eight innings allowing just one run while scattering eight hits. He worked out of jams a few times, including the eighth inning as Scranton put runners on second and third with two outs. Hopman (2-0) registered his fifth strikeout of the day to get out of trouble.
Rookie Jean Sapini earned his second save of the season facing five batters in the ninth with no runs and no hits.
For Kean, Frank LoGiudice had two hits while Tommy Trotter and Kevin Nolan each had two for Scranton.
