Baseball Splits in NJAC Action at William Paterson

Wayne, N.J. (4/14/18) – The Kean University baseball team split in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon falling 13-0 in the opener and winning 5-1 in the nightcap.

The Cougars stand with a 15-16 overall mark and 6-4 mark in the NJAC while William Paterson is 18-9 and also 6-4 in conference play.

WP 13, Kean 0 (Game One)

After scratching across a single run early on a solo shot from Matt Ferrara, the Pioneers broke the game open with a four spot in the sixth.  WP quickly added to their lead with seven more in the seventh to cruise to the game one win. 

Dan Carter was 2-for-4 with three RBI while Ferrara was 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored.

Frank LoGiudice was 2-for-3 in the loss for Kean.

Kean 5, WP 1 (Game Two)

The Cougars plated single runs in the first and second to take a quick 2-0 lead.  Senior Matt Krupa got things going with an RBI sacrifice fly in the first and Brian Cole added another with an RBI single in the second.

Kean pushed the lead to 5-0 with three more in the fifth.  LoGiudice produced an RBI single, Krupa an RBI double and Frank Urso rounded out the scoring with an RBI sacrifice.

William Paterson erased the shutout with a single run in the fifth on an RBI triple from Greg Cuevas.

Rookie Justin Diefenbach (2-2) tossed a complete game for the win.  He allowed just one run while scattering seven hits.  He fanned six and walked just two.
