Wrapping Up the 2012 Season

The Kean University men’s lacrosse team posted a 10-win season for the sixth time in the last seven seasons and advanced to the Skyline Conference championship game for the fourth time in the last five years after finishing 12-6 overall, 5-1 in the Skyline.

Sophomore Richard Cheifitz paced the Cougar offense, leading the team with 40 goals, 21 assists and 61 points, as the two-time Skyline all-star also ranked in the top four in the Skyline in all three categories.  Sophomore John Marcelli finished second on the team with 25 goals and 32 points in his first season in a Kean uniform. 

In the midfield, three-time Skyline all-star Nick Angrisani closed out his career as a three-year starter in midfield and he finished his senior year ranked third in goals (24), points (31) and groundballs (34). Rookie Jonathan Foss won more than 60 percent of his face-off attempts en-route to earning first-team Skyline honors, finishing the season winning 124-of-196 faceoffs to rank second in the conference, while he also picked up a team-high 79 groundballs.

Defensively, sophomore Zach Williams was named a first-team all-star after leading the team with 26 caused turnovers and adding 41 groundballs.  Goalkeeper Lane Zierten led the Skyline with an 8.04 goals against average, making 133 saves in 850 minutes of action.
