Blackley Nets Career-High as Men’s Lacrosse Extends Winning Streak to Five

PURCHASE, N.Y. (4/4/18)- Cole Blackley netted a career-high five goals as the Kean University men's lacrosse team extended their winning streak to five games with a 13-9 victory over Manhattanville College on Wednesday evening.

Andrew Yenesel and Jake Frankovits each tallied two goals apiece for the Cougars who improve to 8-2 overall. Andrew Murray and Gianni Ciffone both collected a hat-trick for the Valiants who fall to 5-4 overall.

Blackley bookended the first half with the game's opening goal and a score which gave Kean the 6-5 lead at halftime. Blackley pumped in two more goals in the third, as the Valiants' Nick Golio notched a goal with 31 seconds remaining to even the contest at 8-8 entering the fourth quarter.  

The Cougars pulled away in the final quarter with five goals on 11 shots, including two from Yenesel and one from Blackey, Tyler Roberto and Mike Snellen.

Snellen added two assists and six groundballs, while Roberto notched an assist and three groundballs. Connor Baucom went 19-for-26 on faceoffs with 10 groundballs, while Matt Palmieri finished with five groundballs, a caused turnover, and one assist. Greg Castor totaled four groundballs and two caused turnovers, while Matt Tanis finished with three caused turnovers and a groundball.

Thomas Francy remained undefeated in goal with 13 saves in 60 minutes of work between the pipes.  

Head Coach Shelley Sheiner and the Cougars will return to action on Saturday, Apr. 7th, hosting the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton at 12:00 p.m.
