UNION, N.J. (4/2/17) – The Kean University men's volleyball program finished off a dominant week with sweeps of The Sage Colleges and Arcadia University on Sunday afternoon.
Match One vs. Sage
The Cougars won the first set in standard fashion, but found themselves behind 7-1 early in the second. Kean roared back to tie it at nine with Ian Capp serving, but traded points with the Gators for the middle stretch of the set. The Cougars finally earned their first lead at 18-17 on a Jacob Kauffman kill. Brandon Lee followed with an ace down the line for a two-point cushion.
Kauffman finished with four kills in the second set, and Capp ripped a total of three aces.
The Cougars scored the first seven points of set three and won in convincing fashion, 25-12. Kauffman was the only player on either side to hit double figures in kills for the match. Capp was the man of the match, with 28 assists, six big service aces, two digs and a kill to boot.
It was Kean's 72nd consecutive win in Skyline Conference play, dating back to 2013.
Match Two vs. Arcadia
Later in non-conference action, Kean topped Arcadia in straight-sets to run its current winning streak to eight matches. The Cougars were even more dominant in this match, hitting .635 against the Knights and holding AU to a .105 mark.
Four different Kean players posted multiple aces – Capp had three – and the team had a total of 11 unreturned serves. Capp and Shayron Taylor were both perfect attacking the ball against the Knights. The closest set score was 25-17.
The Cougars will wrap up the regular season on Friday with a final Skyline Conference tri-match against the College of Mt. St. Vincent and New Jersey City University in the Bronx.
