Softball Advances to NJAC Championship Round With 5-0 Shutout of Ramapo

Union, N.J. (5/6/17) – The Kean University softball team advanced to the NJAC championship round with a 5-0 shutout of Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon in the NJAC Tournament.

The Cougars (32-7) benefited from eight walks that were issued in addition to Cayleen Rizo's homer.

Shannon McMahon (21-2) (pictured left) allowed just four singles in the complete game shutout with no walks and five strikeouts.

After plating a single run in the top of the first via a two out single from Dana Knapp, Kean made it 3-0 in the third as Olivia Zengel reached on an error with the bases loaded scoring pinch-runner Tatiana Yourstone.  Taryn DiGiacomo then walked on four straight pitches for the three run advantage.

Rizo added two, with a two run blast in the sixth for what would be the final.

Kean advances to the NJAC Championship round with a team yet to be determined.  That game will be Sunday at noon.
