Kissimmee, Fla. (3/10/18) – The 23rd ranked Kean University softball team swept Saturday action at the Sunkissed Games defeating Webster University, 11-2 and Arcadia University, 5-4 in extras.
Kean 11, Webster 2 (Game One)
After trading runs in the first inning the Cougars (3-0) took the lead for good with two runs in the third frame. Olivia Zengel got things going with a bunt single and quickly swiped second. Julie Raba recorded an RBI single to put Kean ahead for good, 2-1.
The Cougars put the game out of reach with four runs in the fifth and another three in the seventh. In the fifth Cayleen Rizo registered a two RBI single while Erin Hollyfield added an RBI single. Zengel rounded out the scoring in the inning as she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
In the seventh Raba tallied an RBI single while Kean scored another two on Webster miscues.
Raba was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI while Rizo finished with three RBI, two hits and two runs scored.
In the circle, Taryn DiGiacomo (2-0) tossed the complete game win, scattering eight hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Kean 5, Arcadia 4 (Game Two)
It was a back-and-forth affair as each team finished with 11 hits each and swapped identical runs throughout.
Tied at three-all entering the eighth, Arcadia (1-1) took advantage of two Kean miscues and plated the go-ahead run at the time as Alexa Vardiman crossed the plate after being placed on second to start the frame.
Raba delivered in the bottom of the eighth with the walk off RBI, the third time in four games this season. With runners on second and third, Raba lined a single to left to give Kean the win.
DiGiacomo (3-0) entered in relief and earned the win. She allowed three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
Offensively, Katie Debbie, Rizo, Raba and Zengel all had two hits.
The Cougars return to action on Sunday facing Plattsburgh State and McDaniel College.
