Softball Picks Up Two Wins in Sunday Action

Kissimmee, Fla. (3/11/18) – The Kean University softball team picked up two more wins by defeating Plattsburgh State, 3-1 and McDaniel College, 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.

Kean 3, Plattsburgh 1

The Cardinals jumped on the board with a single run in the third inning with doubles from Kaitlyn Preiss and Kelsey Gage

The Cougars (5-0) tied things up and took the lead with two runs in the fifth.  Cayleen Rizo made the score 1-1 with an RBI double and Jacqueline Riley gave Kean the lead with an RBI single. 

Taryn DiGiacomo helped herself with insurance and an RBI single up the middle in the sixth.

DiGiacomo tossed a complete game for her fourth win of the season.  She scattered six hits with three strikeouts and two walks.  Offensively she was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Kean 4, McDaniel 3

For the fourth time in this young season, Julie Raba collected the game-winning RBI in Kean's final at-bat.  With the score tied three-all in the seventh, Raba singled home Camryn Schaeffer who reached on a one-out single earlier in the frame.

The Cougars (6-0) bolted out to a 3-0 lead in the second as Samantha Krakower collected an RBI single and Olivia Zengel punched through a two RBI single through the infield.

With one swing of the bat, McDaniel knotted things up in the fourth as Alicia Wagner lofted a three run homerun.

Offensively Zengel was 2-for-2 with two RBI.

In the circle, Kaitlin Stahlbrand picked up her second win of the year.  She allowed three runs and four walks with two strikeouts in the complete game effort.

Kean enjoys a day off and will return to action on Tuesday.
