UNION, N.J. (1/3/18)- Marajiah Bacon finished with 26 points and seven rebounds as the Kean University women's basketball team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest to Rowan University, 91-65 on Wednesday evening.
April Szymczyk finished with 25 points and 19 rebounds for the Profs who improve to 7-5 overall and 4-2 in the NJAC. Danielle Oakley finished with 13 points, nine steals and seven assists for the Cougars who fall to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in the NJAC.
Rowan pushed the tempo early using a 14-0 run to jump out to an 18-5 advantage with 3:38 to play in the opening quarter. Kean responded with a 6-0 run that cut the Profs lead down to 18-11 on a Ma. Bacon layup with 2:06 to play in the first.
Bacon carried the Cougars in the second quarter with nine points as Kean erased the Rowan advantage to 36-31 with just over a minute remaining before halftime. The Profs shot 64.3% from the floor compared to just 17.6% for the Cougars in the first half.
In the second half, Rowan opened with a 9-0 run to take their largest lead of the game at 45-31. Kean countered with a 12-0 run to bring the Profs lead down to 45-43 on a Latice Cunningham layup with 5:46 remaining in the third.
Rowan totaled 32 points in the third quarter alone and went on a 15-4 run to stretch the lead to 62-47 with 1:48 remaining. In the final quarter, Rowan extended upon their third-quarter advantage and cruised to third place in the NJAC standings. Kean only scored 20 points in the final 15 minutes of the contest.
Alex Raring finished with 23 points, seven rebounds and four assists for the Profs. Payce Lange added 12 points and three assists for the Cougars.
Head Coach Mandy King and the Cougars will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 6th, hosting the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers-Camden at 3:00 p.m.
