Women’s Lacrosse Win Streak Snapped in NJAC Opener Loss

UNION, N.J. (4/6/18)- Emily Stasuk totaled four points on three goals and one assist as the Kean University women's lacrosse team snapped it's 10 game winning streak with a 14-8 loss to #23 Rowan University in their New Jersey Athletic Conference Opener on Friday evening.

Erin Horner made nine saves for the Profs who improve to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC. Nikki Apostolopoulos made 14 saves for the Cougars who fall to 10-1 overall and 0-1 in the NJAC.

The nationally ranked Profs dominated the opening stanza with 10 goals on 20 shots, including notching seven goals in the first 20 minutes.  Despite trailing, the Cougars got scores from Morgan Graham, Krista LaMaina, and Lex Meyer.  

Kean outscored Rowan in the second half, 5-4, including Stasuk notching all three of her goals. The Cougars opened with back-to-back goals from Stasuk and Brittany Ballack as Kean trailed 10-5 with 19:22 remaining.

Rowan answered with four more goals and extended their advantage back to 14-6 with just under 13 minutes to play. The Profs would maintain the lead for the rest of the contest, despite two goals from Stasuk with under eight minutes to play.

Apostolopoulos added five groundballs and a caused turnover, while Ballack totaled four groundballs, three draw controls, and one caused turnover. Taylor Nyberg finished with three groundballs and two caused turnovers, while Meghan Tillger totaled two groundballs and two draw controls.

Head Coach B.J. Johnson and the Cougars will return to action in Montclair, N.J. on Tuesday, Apr. 10th, against the Red Hawks of Montclair State University at 7:00 p.m.
