Women's Tennis Edges Rutgers-Newark, 5-4

Newark, N.J. (9/8/16) – The Kean University women's tennis team picked up their first NJAC win of the season by edging Rutgers-Newark, 5-4, on Thursday evening.

The Cougars (2-1, 1-0 NJAC) earned wins at first and third doubles to pick up a 2-1 lead. 

The match was deadlocked at four-all after wins at third and sixth singles (Rose Hughes 6-2, 6-2 and Emily Kopp 6-2, 6-4).  Kean was able to clinch the victory in No. 5 singles action as Anna Chan (pictured left) edged out Jamie Lee Buhain in a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 marathon.  The overall match in total lasted nearly four hours.

The Cougars travel to York College on Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup.
