Women's Volleyball Splits in Kean Invitational Day One Action

Union, N.J. (9/1/17) – The Kean University women's volleyball split to open the season and in day one of the Kean Invitational on Friday.

The Cougars (1-1) fell in the opener to Albion College (Mich.), 3-0, before rallying down two to top SUNY New Paltz, 3-2 in the nightcap.

In the opener Kean was held to .081 hitting with 20 errors.  Senior Sara Ridgway led the Cougars with nine kills and three blocks while Kortnee Nelson finished with 11 digs and teammate Kendall Sonico provided 26 assists.  Albion won in straight sets, 25-16, 28-26, 25-19.

In the nightcap the Cougars found themselves in a 2-0 hole before rallying to take set three, 25-23 and again in set four, 25-22.  Kean pushed through with the final three points in the deciding set to rally back for the 3-2 win over SUNY New Paltz.

Ridgway again led the way with 19 kills (.378 attack %) and five blocks.  Sonico recorded 42 assists and sophomore Jesse Larkin reached double-digit kills with 10.

Kean returns to action on Saturday at 10 a.m. in day two tournament action.
