Women's Volleyball Tops Rutgers-Newark in Straight Sets

Newark, N.J. (10/10/17) – The Kean University women's volleyball team remained unbeaten in conference play with a straight set win over Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday evening.

The Cougars improve to 19-5 overall and 7-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference as they registered set scores of 25-8, 25-10, 25-18 on the night.

Rutgers-Newark (6-10, 1-4 NJAC) led for the first point of the match, but that would be all for the first and second sets as Kean cruised, allowing just 11 total kills, while holding the Scarlet Raiders to a zero attack percentage.

The third set was more of a see-saw affair with 10 tied scores and three lead changes, but the Cougars would end the day on a 10-3 spurt to secure the win in straight sets.

Joelle Tondi led all players with 11 kills while Brianna Calvano recorded 24 assists.  Sarah Sample and Kortnee Nelson each had seven digs to lead the way.

Kean will be back in action this weekend when they travel to the Midwest to take on #6 Calvin College, #14 Millikin University, Hope College and Adrian College.
