Men's Soccer Cruises Past William Paterson Into
NJAC Tourney
UNION, N.J. (10/25/06) - The Kean University
men's soccer team had six different players score a goal and five
other players record an assist, as the Cougars defeated William
Paterson University, 6-0, in the New Jersey Athletic Conference
men's soccer regular season finale on Wednesday evening. The
victory improved Kean to 8-6-5 overall, 4-3-2 in the NJAC and
helped the Cougars clinch the fourth seed in the upcoming NJAC
tournament. The Pioneers conclude the season at 7-9-1 overall, 3-6
in the conference.
The Cougars wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as junior
midfielder Thomas Fink (Hamilton, N.J.) scored off
the assist from freshman midfielder Ronald Quiroz
(Fairview, N.J.) just 1:51 into the contest.
Midway through the opening half, the Cougars were awarded a penalty
kick following a foul in the box. Senior forward Jorge
Montesinos (Dover, N.J.) fired the shot that Pioneer
junior keeper David Casper (Franklin, N.J.) saved,
however the rebound went straight to junior midfielder
Damien Serafin (Wallington, N.J.) , who one-timed
the shot past Casper for the 2-0 advantage. Following the goal,
William Paterson was forced to play a man-down the rest of the
contest after a Pioneer player received a red card.
The Cougars added one more goal before halftime, as junior forward
Anthony Tuesta (Clifton, N.J.) scored off the
assist from sophomore forward Cory Wilson (Woodbury,
N.J.) in the 32nd minute.
In the second half, the Cougars added goals by sophomore back
Thomas Azydzik (Clark, N.J.), freshman forward
David Scott (Sanford, Fla.) and freshman forward
Joseph Odumewu (Maplewood, N.J.). Sophomore back
Christian Raigoza (Paterson, N.J.) and sophomore
midfielder Jacob Denney (Mt. Holly, N.J.) each
added assists in the victory.
In goal for the Pioneers, Casper stopped seven shots, while Cougar
keepers Kyle Crego (Ocean City, N.J.) and
Chris Chaban (Hillside, N.J.) each made two
saves.
The Cougars host fifth-seeded Richard Stockton College in the
opening round of the NJAC playoffs on Saturday, October 28, at 8:30
p.m. Cost of admission is $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for senior
citizens, student and children. No complimentary admission is
accepted.
