Evelyn Nets Career High in Cougar Victory, 85-79

UNION, N.J. (12/13/06) - Sophomore forward Elijah Evelyn (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded his first career double-double with career-highs of 18 points and 11 rebounds, as the Kean University men's basketball team defeated New York City College of Technology, 85-79, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.

Evelyn made his first eight attempts from the floor, including both three-pointers, as he finished the night 8-of-10 from the field in 18 minutes of action off the bench for the Cougars (7-1).

For the Yellow Jackets (1-9), senior guard Otis Saylee (New York, N.J.), sophomore forward Kevin Hall (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and sophomore guard Jamaal Hall (Brooklyn, N.Y.) all scored 21 points.

The Cougars took a 51-29 halftime lead, as Evelyn had 13 points and seven rebounds and junior guard Will Floyd (Eustis, Fla.) added eight points off the bench.

In the second half, the Cougars extended their lead to as many 26 points on two occasions, the last with just under 13 minutes remaining in the half before City Tech mounted a comeback. Trailing by 18 points at 80-62 with 5:19 left in the game, the Yellow Jackets outscored the Cougars 17-5 down the stretch to put the final margin at six points.

For the Cougars, senior guard Bryan Keller (Piscataway, N.J.) added 13 points and four assists, while seniors Steve Koenigstein (Toms River, N.J.) and Lamar Wright (Galloway, N.J.) each added nine points.

City Tech's Kevin Hall added eight rebounds and four steals, while Saylee had nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.

The Cougars return to action on Friday, December 15, when they travel to Ithaca College for non-conference action at 6 p.m.
