Tuesta Goals Propel Men's Soccer Over Rutgers-Newark, 4-0

NEWARK, N.J. (9/20/06) - Junior forward Anthony Tuesta (Clifton, N.J.) had the first and last goal for Kean University, as the Cougars shutout Rutgers-Newark, 4-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match under the lights on Alumni Field. The Cougars improved to 4-1-2 overall, 1-0-1 in the conference, while the Scarlet Raiders dropped to 2-4-1 overall, 0-2-0 NJAC.

The Cougars out shot the Scarlet Raiders, 25-6, as junior Kyle Crego (Ocean City, N.J.) made three saves in 77 minutes in goal to get the win before giving way to freshman Chris Chaban (Hillside, N.J.) who shared the shutout.

Tuesta scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 31st minute on a through pass from near midfield by Christian Raigoza (Paterson, N.J.). He beat sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Johnson (Montclair, N.J.) to the left post, rolling the ball into the net after the goalie missed on a diving attempt to smother the breakaway. Tuesta iced the match with a short shot inside the far post on a cross from the right corner from senior midfielder Adrian Castro (Middletown, N.J.) in the 57th minute.

The Cougars led 3-0 at the half after scoring twice in the span of two minutes. Junior midfielder Damien Serafin (Wallington, N.J.) knocked in a goal in the 42nd minute on a chip feed from freshman midfielder Ronald Quiroz (Fairview, N.J.) just 117 seconds before freshman Chris Faustino (Union, N.J.) scored on a crossing pass from junior midfielder Edgar Chaves (Bridgewater, N.J.).

Johnson made 11 saves for Rutgers-Newark.

The Cougars return to action on Saturday, September 23, when they travel to Rutgers-Camden, for a NJAC match at 1 p.m.
