Women's Soccer Falls to Rutgers-Camden, 2-1
UNION, N.J. (9/23/06) - Rutgers-Camden freshman back Julia
Jackson (Absecon, N.J.) netted the game-winner early in the second
half and the Scarlet Raptors held off the Cougar attack in
defeating host Kean University, 2-1, in New Jersey Athletic
Conference women's soccer action on Saturday evening. The victory
improved the Scarlet Raptors to 6-2 overall, 2-1 in the conference,
while Kean dropped to 5-2 overall, 1-2 in the NJAC.
The Raptors took an early 1-0 lead, as freshman forward Kendyll
Clayton (Philadelphia, Pa.) picked up the loose ball in the box
following a cross and fired a shot just inside the post.
Kean tied the game midway through the first half in the 21st
minute, when senior forward Heather Anzivino (Belford, N.J.) took a
pass from junior forward Michelle Fischer (Scotch Plains, N.J.) and
fired a quick shot that beat the keeper back to the net.
Early in the second half, Jackson netted the game-winner, as her
shot deflected off a Kean defender and past the keeper into the
goal.
The Cougars controlled the offensive attack, holding a 19-7
advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks. Raptors junior
keeper Kristen Cargen (Cherry Hill, N.J.) stopped four shots, while
Kean junior goalie Samantha Groh (Mason, Mich.) made two saves.
