85-66
UNION, N.J. (1/13/07) - Freshman Jan Bush (Willow Grove, Pa.)
led all players with 19 points off the bench as the Kean University
women's basketball team remained perfect in New Jersey Athletic
Conference (NJAC) play, defeating visiting Richard Stockton College
of New Jersey, 85-66, Saturday afternoon at Harwood Arena.
Sophomore Melissa Beyruti (Union City, N.J.) finished with 17
points for the Cougars who improved to 14-1 overall and 4-0 in
conference action. Sophomore Jenn Russell (Scotch Plains, N.J.) led
the Ospreys with 16 points and seven rebounds as Richard Stockton
fell to 5-8 overall and 3-2 in NJAC play.

neither team leading by more than four points. Kean then used two
short runs in the remaining end of the first half to widen the gap
to as many as 12 points. Their first run started with seven minutes
to go as Beyruti hit a jumper in the paint. Bush followed with four
consecutive free throws in the next minute. After a Russell basket,
Bush capped the short burst with a layup to give the Cougars a
25-17 lead. Kean's next run pushed them into the break. Beyruti
contributed five points in the span, giving the Cougars a 12 point
advantage.
The Cougars held a 36-27 advantage at the half. Bush led all
players with 12 points while Russell recorded 11 in 17 minutes of
action.
Kean never trailed in the second half and led by as many as 21
points. The Ospreys pulled as close as six points on two separate
occasions early in the period. At 17:28
Russell sank a layup, making the score 40-34 and exactly one
minute later Jenna Shenk (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) hit her own layup for a
score of 42-36.
Freshman Alysha Taylor (Galloway, N.J.) recorded a season-high
16 points in the win for Kean while teammate Ebony Jackson (Newark,
N.J.) registered 13 points, six assists, three blocks and four
steals.

while Danielle Conroy (Vineland, N.J.) and Lisa Neira (Cresskill,
