Fischer Leads Cougars into NJAC Playoffs
UNION, N.J, (10/24/07) - Senior forward Michelle
Fischer (Scotch Plains, N.J.) scored two goals and
assisted on another to lead the Kean University women's soccer team
to a 3-0 victory over visiting William Paterson University in the
New Jersey Athletic Conference regular season finale on Wednesday
evening.
With the victory, the Cougars (8-8-2, 4-4-1 NJAC) clinched the
fifth seed in the upcoming NJAC tournament and will face the
fourth-seeded Montclair State University Red Hawks.
Kean took a 1-0 late in the first half, as sophomore midfielder
Jenna Godwin (Kingwood, N.J.) took a pass from
Fischer to score her fifth goal of the season in the
39th minute.
Fischer padded the Cougar lead in the second half, as she scored
her 10th and 11th goals of the season in a
three minute span, including her second goal off the assist from
rookie forward Sam Yock (South Brunswick, N.J.) in
the 66th minute.
For the Pioneers (8-9-1, 3-6 NJAC), sophomore goalkeeper
Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, N.J.) stopped five
shots.
Kean sophomore keeper Nicole Groszew (Denville,
N.J.) made three saves in the victory.
Kean travels to Montclair State for the first round of the NJAC
playoffs on Saturday, October 27. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
