Late Surge Pushes Kean Past Mt. St. Vincent, 8-3

UNION, N.J. (3/21/07) - Junior attack Dennis Lukackso (Lincoln Park, N.J.) notched two goals as the Kean University men's lacrosse team earned its first conference win of the season, defeating the College of Mount Saint Vincent, 8-3, Wednesday evening at Kean Alumni Stadium.

The Cougars, who never trailed in the game, improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the Skyline Conference. The Dolphins fall to 1-5 and 0-3 in conference play.

It was a low scoring affair in the first half as Kean registered just one goal in each of the first two quarters. Senior Dan Saldutti (Boonton, N.J.) recorded Kean's first goal with 7:56 left to play in the first quarter on a pass from attack Steve Gill (Patchogue, N.Y.) while early in the second quarter junior Dennis Novello (Freehold, N.J.) put the Cougars ahead, 2-0, off a pass from freshman Scott Leathem (Fair Lawn, N.J.).

Ahead, 3-0, in the third quarter, the Dolphins fought back and picked up back-to-back goals to pull within one. Junior Jason Reynolds (Centereach, N.Y.) put Mount Saint Vincent on the board followed by a goal by Marco Segna (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) just two minutes later.

Both teams traded goals bridging the third and fourth quarter, before the Cougars tallied the final three goals to pull away with the win.

Both Gill and Leathem finished with a goal and assist each while senior Josh Foote (Monroeville, N.J.) recorded a goal in the fourth quarter.

Junior Dave Nichols (Florham Park, N.J.) picked up the win in net. Nichols recorded four saves.

Reynolds finished the evening with two goals for the Dolphins. Goalkeeper Thomas Egan (Nanuet, N.Y.) tallied 14 saves in the loss.

Kean outshot the College of Mount Saint Vincent, 44-11, while winning 10 of 15 faceoffs.

Kean will continue its home schedule and take on the Eastern University Eagles this Saturday, March 24th at 1 p.m.
