Gill, Leathem Push Kean Past Mount Ida,

UNION, N.J. (3/3/07) - Senior attack Steve
Gill (Patchogue, N.Y.) recorded three goals and three
assists and freshman Scott Leathem (Fair Lawn,
N.J.) registered a game-high four goals to go along with
two assists, as Kean University (2-0) defeated Mount Ida College
(0-1), 19-11, Saturday afternoon at Kean Alumni Stadium.
Both teams battled to a 4-4 tie after one period of play. The
Cougars then blew the game wide open with five goals by five
different players in the second period. Kean headed into halftime
with a 9-6 advantage.
The third period determined the game as Kean notched another five
goals, again by five different players. Leathem provided
back-to-back goals to start the fourth period, including a man-down
goal with 14:14 remaining.
In all, over 35 different Cougars stepped on the field for action
this afternoon.
Junior Dave Nichols (Florham Park, N.J.) recorded
four saves in goal in 51:30 minutes of action, while freshman
John Gesumaria (Cranford, N.J.) recorded six saves
of his own in 8:30.
Junior Dennis Novello (Freehold, N.J.) finished
with three goals and two assists on the afternoon while juniors
Dan Mondino (Boonton, N.J.) and Dennis
Lukacsko (Lincoln Park, N.J.) each had two goals.
Sophomores Chris Prophete (Waltham, Mass.) and
Brett Conley (Fairfield, Conn.) each had two goals
for the Mustangs in the loss.
Kean will continue its home schedule, and begin conference play,
this Wednesday, March 7th as they take on Montclair State
University, beginning at 7 p.m.
