Women's Lacrosse Falls to Montclair
State
UNION, N.J. (04/14/07) - Montclair State
University had five players record multi-goal games en-route to a
20-1 victory over Kean University in Skyline Conference women's
lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Hawks (8-2, 4-0 Skyline) were led by senior midfielder
Shauna Brocklebank (Long Branch, N.J.), who had
five goals and an assist. For the Cougars (4-6, 1-2 Skyline),
senior attack Gio Buono (Plainsboro, N.J.) scored
the team's lone goal.
Montclair wasted little time getting on the board, as junior
midfielder Jennifer Tanis (Oak Ridge, N.J.) scored
off the assist from sophomore attack MaryKate DiBenedetto
(Cinnaminson, N.J.) just 29 seconds into the game.
The Red Hawks opened the game with five straight goals before
Buono got Kean on board at the seven minute mark. MSU closed
the half with 10 more goals to build a 15-1 lead at halftime and
the Red Hawks scored the only five goals of the second-half to
remain undefeated in the Skyline Conference.
In the victory, freshman midfielder Morgan MacPhee (Toms
River, N.J.) had four goals and an assist, while senior
attack Ann Daily (Moorestown, N.J.) added four
goals. Red Hawk leading scorer Brianna Gillin
(Cinnaminson, N.J.) and DiBenedetto each finished with
three assists, while Gillin also added a goal.
For the Cougars, senior Lydia Pinto
(Clark, N.J.) and freshman Jenni Barry (Berkeley
Heights, N.J.) each made six saves, as the Red Hawks had a
45-12 advantage in shots.
Kean looks to snap a two-game losing streak on Tuesday, April
17, when the Cougars host Gwynedd-Mercy College in non-conference
action at 7 p.m.
