Augustine Fires Four Hit Complete Game Win Over #24 Ramapo

Mahwah, N.J. (4/26/07) - Senior pitcher Joe Augustine (Highland Park, N.J.) pitched a four-hit complete game leading the Cougars to a 10-1 conference victory over the Roadrunners Thursday afternoon.  

With the win, Kean improves to 27-6 overall, 12-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  Ramapo falls to 28-9 overall, 11-5 in the conference.

Kean took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning on a double steal with two outs and runners on first and third. Perry Schatzow (Ocean Twp., N.J.) scored the Cougars first run after reaching on a fielder's choice.  

The Roadrunners got one back when senior Gary Miller (Washington Twp., N.J.) ripped a single past the shortstop and later scored on sophomore Gino Gallagher's (Cedar Grove, N.J.) infield groundout to second base.

The Cougars extended their lead to 5-1 in the 4th inning when Aaron Richard (Plainfield, N.J.) ripped a double to left field and scored on a single to right field by Schatzow.  Maikel De La Rosa (Newark, N.J.) stepped to the plate and bunted for an infield single to plate Mike Shymanski (Edison, N.J.).  The run gave the Cougars a four run advantage.

The Cougars held the Roadrunners to just two hits in the final innings of play while posting six hits of their own with five more runs coming in the 6th.

Richard was 4-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI while Schatzow was 2-for-5.  Dan Mattonelli (Hamilton, N.J.) finished with a 2-for-4 performance.

Augustine earned his sixth win of the year.  Augustine (6-2) allowed just four hits in the complete game performance while striking out nine and walking just one.

Junior Chris Stanisce (Glassboro, N.J.) took the loss pitching just 3.2 innings, giving up eight hits and five runs, all earned, with three walks and two strikeouts.  Stanisce falls to 4-2 on the year.

Miller went 2-3 with one run and Nick Sbarra (Washington Twp., N.J.) posted one hit on four at bats.

Kean will face off against New Jersey City University on Friday, April 27th in Jersey City, first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
