Dolphins Edge Kean In Season Finale,
18-15
UNION, N.J. (4/27/07) -Junior Chanel
Comis (Durham, N.C.) notched a game-high five goals as the
College of Mount Saint Vincent defeated Kean University, 18-15, in
women's lacrosse Skyline Conference action Friday night at Kean
Alumni Stadium.
With the loss the Cougars were eliminated from the upcoming
Skyline Conference tournament. Kean fell to 6-8 overall and
2-4 in conference action. The Cougars were tied with three
others schools for the fourth spot into the tournament, but due to
tie breakers, Manhattanville earned the fourth official seed.
Kean recorded tonight's first goal on an unassisted goal from
freshman Ashley Reynolds (Old Bridge, N.J.).
The Dolphins then rolled off five uncontested goals to gain a quick
advantage. Kean battled back and pulled within one as
sophomore Stephanie Cirino (Warminster, Pa.) took
a pass from Reynolds with just over 15 minutes to go in the first
half. Mount Saint Vincent headed into the break with a slim
9-7 lead.
Both teams then traded goals to start the second half before the
Cougars tied things up at 12 with just over 12 minutes to go.
Reynolds recorded back-to-back goals spanning a minute before
sophomore Stephanie Arroyo (Keyport, N.J.) tied
the game on an unassisted goal.
That would be as close as the Cougars would get however as the
Dolphins then rolled off three goals of their own to seal the win.
Kean also played down in the final minutes of action as three
Cougars received cards to end their night.
Offensively for the Cougars Joeline Bennett (Willingboro,
N.J.) and Reynolds each had three goals while senior
Gio Buono (Plainsboro, N.J.) and Cirino finished
with two.
For the Dolphins, freshman Kelly Martin (North Rockland,
N.Y.) had four goals while junior Cyndi Adams
(Mechanicsville, Md.) finished with three.
Freshman Nicole Fortier (East Lyme, Conn.)
recorded seven saves in goal for Mount Saint Vincent while senior
Lydia Pinto (Clark, N.J.) closed
out her career with 14 saves for the Cougars.
This concludes the 2007 season for the Cougars.
