Field Hockey Blanks Philadelphia Biblical,
5-0
UNION, N.J. (09/12/07) - Senior Alli Green (West
Deptford, N.J.) tallied a goal and two assists to lift the
Kean University field hockey team to a 5-0 shutout victory over
Philadelphia Biblical University in non-conference action on
Saturday afternoon.
After leading 1-0 at halftime, the Cougars (4-1) scored four
goals in a 12 minute span to defeat the Crimson Eagles (0-5) for
their fifth win of the season.
Kean freshman Kelly Mataya (West Paterson,
N.J.) scored the first goal of the game on a penalty
stroke in the 18th minute.
In the second half, the Cougars broke the game open, as Green
had a hand in the first three goals. The senior captain
scored her fourth goal of the year following a scramble in front of
the cage, before assisting on the next two goals.
The Cougars increased the lead to 4-0 on goals by freshman
Amie Hoch (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J.) and sophomore
Brittany Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J.) exactly four
minutes apart in the 43rd and 47th minute,
respectively.
Junior Katie McGee (Cherry Hill, N.J.)
connected with rookie Brandee Brown (South Plainfield,
N.J.) in the 50th minute, as Brown scored her
second goal of the season for the 5-0 lead.
For Philadelphia Biblical, senior goalkeeper Katie
Aungst (Ocean City, N.J.) stopped 13 shots, as Kean held a
27-1 advantage in shots and a 15-0 edge in penalty corners.
The Cougars host Montclair State University in the New Jersey
Athletic Conference opener on Tuesday, September 18, at 7:30 p.m.
