Fischer Nets Hat Trick in 7-1 Victory
PURCHASE, N.Y. (9/5/07) - Senior forward Michelle
Fischer (Scotch Plains, N.J.) notched the hat trick to
lead the Kean University women's soccer team to a 7-1 victory over
host Manhattanville College on Wednesday afternoon.
Five different Cougars (2-0-1) scored goals and Kean scored four
goals in the opening 20 minutes to cruise to its second victory of
the season. For Manhattanville (0-3-0), freshman goalkeeper
Ali Bromson (Suffield, Conn.) made seven saves in
nearly 68 minutes of action.
The Cougars wasted little time getting on the board, as junior
Amanda Pitts (Rahway, N.J.) scored just 3:03 into
the game, as she beat Bromson to a loose ball. Fischer
tallied a pair of goals in the next 14 minutes off assists from
sophomores Kelly Rigano (Scotch Plains, N.J.) and
Jenna Godwin (Kingwood, N.J.) to stake the Cougars
our to the 3-0 lead at the 17 minute mark.
Junior Nicole Tahan (Clifton, N.J.) picked up a
loose ball outside the box to give the Cougars a 4-0 lead less than
20 minutes into the game.
Fischer scored her third goal of the game off an assist from
freshman Samantha Yock (South Brunswick, N.J.)
just 69 seconds into the second half.
Manhattanville got on the board in the 68th minute
before Yock and sophomore Jen Behrens (Ringwood,
N.J.) closed out the scoring for the Cougars.
Kean sophomore Nicole Groszew (Denville, N.J.)
made one save in 76 minutes of action in goal.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, September 8, when they
travel to FDU-Florham in a non-conference game at 4 p.m.
