#10 York Rallies Past #17 Kean, 3-1
Newport News, Va. (9/7/07) - York
College (Pa.) notched two goals in the final minutes of action to
break a 1-1 tie as the Spartans, ranked 10th by the
National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA), defeated
the Cougars, ranked #17 by the same poll, 3-1, Friday evening at
the Joe Pombriant/CNU Classic hosted by Christopher Newport
University.
After a scoreless first half, the Cougars (2-2) tied things up
as senior Anthony Tuesta (Clifton, N.J.) scored on
a penalty kick in the 74th minute. York (3-0)
used a late rally to score two quick goals in the span of 21
seconds in the 88th and 89th minutes to seal
the victory.
The Spartans edged Kean in shots (16-10) and corners (9-5).
Senior Kyle Crego (Ocean City, N.J.) and
sophomore Jeff Soares (Ocean Twp., N.J.) each had
three saves in the loss.
Kean will square off against host Christopher Newport University
on Saturday, September 8th at 7:30 p.m.
