Kean Sails Past NJCU, 94-48
Union, N.J. (1/12/08) - The Kean University
women's basketball team had five players in double figures on their
way to a 94-48 victory over visiting New Jersey City University in
New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at
Harwood Arena.
Senior Chari' Cooper (Paulsboro, N.J.) (pictured
left) led all players with a double-double 19 points and 15
rebounds while junior Melissa Beyruti (Union City,
N.J.) had 14 points.
The Cougars (13-1, 2-1 NJAC) picked up the first bucket of the
game and led throughout. The Gothic Knights (3-9, 1-2 NJAC)
closed within four with 13:42 left in the first half as
Alaia Robinson (Irvington, N.J.) hit a jumper to
put the score at 12-8. Kean then marched on a 24-0 run over
the next eight minutes and closed out the half with a 31 point
advantage.
Cooper led KU with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Beyruti added
nine first half points. Angela Fitzgerald (Jersey
City, N.J.) had four points for NJCU.
Kean combined to use 12 players in the game and in the second half
continued to build their lead to as much as 51 points as sophomore
Cardiss Jackman (Tobyhanna, Pa.) (pictured right)
hit a layup with 9:09 left in the contest.
Jackman finished the game with 14 points while freshman
Angelica Bermudez (Belleville, N.J.) added 10
points and five rebounds in 13 minutes of action. Junior
Ebony Jackson rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points.
For the Gothic Knights, Fitzgerald led the team with a
double-double 15 points and 12 rebounds while Tania
Greenleaf (Bordentown, N.J.) added 13. Robinson, who
is averaging just under 14 rebounds per game was held to just four
in the contest.
Kean returns to conference action on Wednesday, January
16th as they take on The College of New Jersey at 6
p.m., NJCU will host Rutgers-Newark also at 6 p.m.
