UNION, N.J. (10/25/08) - Elizabethtown College netted three goals in a 90 second span to break a 1-1 tie and defeat host Kean University, 4-1, in non-conference field hockey action on Saturday afternoon.

The 13th-ranked Blue Jays (15-3) snapped the 12-game winning streak for the Cougars (13-3).

Elizabethtown senior Andrea Miles (Phoenix, Md.) scored two goals, including the game-winner, while Kean junior Brittany Gibbs (West Deptford, N.J.) scored her 23rd goal of the season.

In the final eight minutes of the game, Miles broke the 1-1 tie, scoring off the assist from junior forward Brenna Noon (Wyomissing, N.J.) at 62:04.

The Blue Jays scored again just 43 seconds later, as sophomore Liz DeMatteis (Newark, Del.) sent a pass to senior forward Megan Angstadt (Oley, Pa.) for the two-goal advantage.  Elizabethtown tacked on one more goal, as Miles closed out the scoring just 89 seconds (63:33) after her first goal on the pass from sophomore midfielder Meg Cassels (Downingtown, Pa.).

Elizabethtown took a 1-0 lead at 11:13 into the game on a penalty corner when senior back Tiffany Vogel (Annville, Pa.) scored off the pass from Angstadt.

The Cougars quickly tied the game just 1:35 later, when junior Laura Janousek (Yardville, N.J.) sent a pass from the top of the circle that senior Stephanie Cirino (Warminster, Pa.) tipped over to Gibbs (pictured right) for the goal at 12:48.

Kean goalkeeper Ashlie Berghold (Boyertown, Pa.) and Blue Jays goalie Liz Hannegan (Lancaster, Pa.) each stopped three shots in the game.  The Cougars held an 11-3 edge in penalty corners, however Elizabethtown had a slight 11-10 advantage in shots, including a 7-2 edge in the second half.

The Cougars host New Jersey Athletic Conference leader and #1 The College of New Jersey in a conference game on Tuesday, October 28, at 7:30 p.m.
