Esposito Nets Game-Winner Late in
1-0 Victory Over Ramapo
UNION, N.J. (10/29/08) - Freshman
Danielle Esposito (Holmdel, N.J.) scored the game-winning
goal in 78th minute to lead the Kean University women's
soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Ramapo College in the New Jersey
Athletic Conference regular season finale on Wednesday evening.
With the victory, the Cougars (11-6, 5-4 NJAC) earn the fifth seed
in the upcoming NJAC playoffs and will face fourth-seeded Montclair
State University in the opening round of the playoffs. The
Roadrunners close out the season at 6-10-2 overall, 2-6-1 NJAC.
After a scoreless first half, Esposito (pictured right) netted
the game's lone goal when her shot deflected off the crossbar and
just back across the line for the 1-0 lead with just 12:05
remaining.
Esposito had three more chances to tally the insurance goal,
however Ramapo goalkeeper Jessica DaRold (Sayreville,
N.J.) stopped all three shots to hold the Cougars to one
goal. DaRold finished with 10 saves in the game, including
nine in the second half.
Kean sophomore goalkeeper Leandra Russo (Galloway,
N.J.) made three saves, including a diving stop with less
than four minutes left, to preserve the shutout victory.
The Cougars travel to Montclair State on Saturday, November 1,
at a time yet to be announced for the opening round of the NJAC
playoffs.
