Women's Soccer Falls in ECAC Semifinals

HOBOKEN, N.J. (11/15/08) - The Kean University women's soccer team closed out the 2008 season, falling to top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology, 4-2, in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Metro Region semifinals on Saturday morning.

The Cougars finished the season with a 12-8 overall mark, while Stevens improved to 14-5-2 and advance to face New York University for the ECAC Metro Region Championship.

After the Ducks took an early 3-0 lead less than 15 minutes into the contest, Kean senior Amanda Pitts (Roselle, N.J.) got the Cougars on the board with her sixth goal of the season, scoring off the assist from sophomore Samantha Ciccone (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) (pictured right) to make the score 3-1 with 8:24 remaining in the first half.

Stevens extended the lead to 4-1 in the 72nd minute, before freshman forward Danielle Esposito (Holmdel, N.J.) picked up a loose ball in the box and found senior Nicole Tahan (Clifton, N.J.) for the goal with 10:06 remaining in the game.

In goal, sophomore Leandra Russo (Galloway, N.J.) made one save.
