Lytle Pushes Kean To Overtime
Win
Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (11/21/08) - Junior
Brian Lytle (Union, N.J.) recorded a game-high 18
points, including all six Cougar points in overtime as the men's
basketball team defeated host Wilkes University, 69-68, Friday
evening.
Sophomore Akinwande Oshodi (Florence, N.J.) added
13 points and eight rebounds as Kean improved to 2-1 with the win.
The Colonels (2-1) led for most of the contest and by as many as
13 in the first half heading into the break with a 37-33
advantage. The Cougars really surged in the final three
minutes of the game and tied things up at 1:28 as Oshodi (pictured
right) netted two from the charity stripe to knot the game at
59. After the Colonels made 2-of-4 free throws on two
separate trips to go ahead, 61-59, junior Vinnie Darpino
(Colonia, N.J.) drained a three-pointer for a one point
lead with 14 seconds to go in regulation. With just seconds
remaining, Darpino made 1-of-2 from the free-throw line for a 63-61
lead. With two seconds remaining, Wilkes was fouled and senior
Steve Kline (Bridgewater, N.J.) sent the game into
overtime.
It was all Lytle in the overtime period as he tied the game on
two separate occasions with jumpers and with 25 seconds to go, hit
two free-throws of his own to seal the win.
Darpino finished with 12 points while freshman Michael
Oglesby (Neptune, N.J.) came off the bench and recorded
seven points and six rebounds.
Kean returns home on Sunday, November 23rd, when they
take on Stevens Institute of Technology at 1 p.m.
