McGee Leads Field Hockey Past #10

UNION, N.J. (11/6/08) - Senior Katie
McGee (Cherry Hill, N.J.) scored a goal and added two
assists to lead the Kean University field hockey team to a 3-0
shutout over #10 Rowan University in New Jersey Athletic Conference
action on Thursday evening.
The Cougars (14-5, 4-2 NJAC) close out the regular season with
their first win over the Profs (13-4, 3-2 NJAC) since 2004.
Freshman Olivia Triano (Keyport, N.J.)
(pictured right) scored the first goal of the game just 10:28 into
the game when McGee sent a pass across the front of the cage that
Triano knocked in from the left side.
Later in the half, McGee added her second assist of the night on
a tip-in by junior Julie Bachovchin
(Piscataway, N.J.) with 12:34 remaining in the
first half for the 2-0 lead at halftime.
McGee later added the insurance goal with the unassisted goal
with just 11:55 left in the contest.
With her two assists, McGee tied the single season record for
assists (10), while also becoming the program's all-time career
leader with 25 career assists, breaking the mark of 24 held by
Cherie McNellis (2002-05).
Rowan held a 13-11 edge in shots, while each team had 10 penalty
corners. The Profs goalkeeper Lisa Apt (Mays Landing,
N.J.) recorded two saves, while Kean goalkeeper Ashlie
Berghold (Boyertown, Pa.) stopped one shot in the shutout
victory.
