Cooper, Beyruti Climb NCAA Charts in NJAC

Chari' Cooper (Paulsboro, N.J.) and junior guard
Melissa Beyruti (Union City, N.J.) each moved up
in the NCAA Division III career records in Kean University's 95-39
victory over visiting Richard Stockton College in New Jersey
Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Wednesday evening.
Beyruti led the #7/8 Cougars (22-2, 10-2 NJAC) with 26 points,
while her four three pointers gave her 246 career treys, moving her
into 24th place in NCAA Division III career history.
Cooper (pictured left) recorded her 53rd career
double-double and moved into fourth place on the NCAA Division III
career rebounding list after posting 15 points and 13
rebounds. She currently has 1,411 rebounds and is just nine
rebounds away from moving into third place.
For the Ospreys (12-13, 5-8 NJAC), sophomore forward
Alyssa Reiter (Sewell, N.J.) scored a team-high
nine points and had three blocks in their season finale.
Junior Ebony Jackson (Newark, N.J.) took the
opening tip-off in for a lay-up and the Cougars never looked back,
building a 31-point lead en-route to a 47-18 lead at
halftime. Beyruti led the Cougars with 11 points, while
Cooper had nine points and seven rebounds in the first half.
Freshman forward Kristin Sciarrillo (Edison,
N.J.) paced the Ospreys with six first-half points.
The Cougars, who defeated Richard Stockton 107-48 on January 23,
2008, led by as many as 58 points to rebound from a 79-71 loss to
The College of New Jersey last week.
Kean connected on 49.4 percent of its shots (41-of-83), while
holding the Ospreys to just 28.8
percent shooting (15-of-52). Currently ranked second in
rebounding margin, Kean also held a commanding 56-31 edge on the
boards, including a 29-13 advantage on the offensive glass.
Beyruti (pictured right) hit 11-of-18 shots, including 4-of-8
from long range, to account for her season-high 26 points.
Sophomore guard Cardiss Jackman (Tobyhanna, Pa.)
hit 7-of-10 shots to score 15 points, while Jackson added 10
points, seven assists and three steals.
For Richard Stockton, junior Jenn Russell (Scotch
Plains, N.J.) had eight points, five rebounds and three
blocks, while Sciarrillo added six rebounds to go along with her
six points.
Kean is currently tied for first place in the NJAC South
Division with TCNJ heading into the regular season finale on
Saturday, February 23. The Cougars travel to Glassboro, N.J.,
where they take on the Profs at 1 p.m.
