Women's Lax Cruises to Season-Opening Victory,
17-1
UNION, N.J. (3/4/08) - The Kean University
women's lacrosse team took a 15-0 lead in the first half of their
season opener en-route to a 17-1 victory over visiting Lancaster
Bible College on a soggy Tuesday afternoon in Kean Alumni Stadium.
Junior Stephanie Cirino (Warminster, Pa.) led
the Cougars (1-0) with five goals and two assists. For the
Chargers (0-1), freshman keeper Mindy Austin made
eight saves.
Cirino netted the first three goals of the game, recording all
five goals and two assists in the
first half. She opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the
contest, and added a pair of goals just 32 seconds apart to give
the Cougars a 3-0 lead less than five minutes into the game.
For Kean, freshman Rosalia Romeo (Ridgewood,
N.J.) (pictured right) added three goals and an assist in
her first intercollegiate game, while sophomore Chelsea
Davis (Livingston, N.J.) added two goals and six draw
controls in the victory.
Charger junior attack Mary Jennings broke up
the shut-out, netting a free position shot with 14:15 remaining.
The Cougars return home for the second of their four-game
homestand next Tuesday, March 11, when they host FDU-Florham in
non-conference action at 4 p.m.
