Softball Sweeps Twinbill from
FDU-Florham
MADISON, N.J.
(4/24/08) - The Kean University softball team
swept FDU-Florham in a non-conference on Thursday afternoon,
earning a 2-1 victory in eight innings in the opener, before
closing out the sweep with a 7-0 win in the nightcap.
The Cougars improved to 27-11 overall, while the Devils dropped
to 23-14 this season.
In the opener, freshman Courtney Smyth (Abington,
Pa.) earned the complete game victory, scattering eight
hits with five strikouts, while allowing no earned runs.
Sophomore Allison Lizzi (Cherry Hill,
N.J.) scored the game-winning run in the top of the
eighth inning following an error on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore
designated player Allison Thibault (Garfield,
N.J.).
In the nightcap, sophomore right-hander Cassie Shotwell
(Dunellen, N.J.) (pictured right) improved to 4-2
with the complete-game shutout, as she allowed just three hits and
struck out six batters.
Senior shortstop Johanna Hedler (South Plainfield,
N.J.) drove in a pair of runs and scored twice, while
junior Sara Steinman (Springfield, N.J.) was
2-of-4 with two runs scored.
Kean closes out the regular season on Saturday, April 26,
hosting Ramapo College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference
doubleheader. First-pitch is set for 1 p.m.
