Kean Shutouts Rutgers-Newark, 4-0

COUGARS SHUTOUT RUTGERS-NEWARK, 4-0

Union, N.J. (4/25/08) - Junior Colin Feneis (Spotswood, N.J.) tossed his first complete game of the season as #9/11 Kean University shutout visiting Rutgers-Newark, 4-0, Friday afternoon at Jim Hynes Stadium.

Feneis (2-3) allowed eight hits while fanning seven and walking no one in the win.

Kean (28-9, 12-4 NJAC) picked up the only run they would need in the bottom of the first as senior Bryan Burke (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) reached on infield single.  After moving up a base on a wild pitch, senior Eric Ammirata (Hamilton, N.J.) (pictured right) drove him home with a single up the middle.

After plating two runs in the bottom of the second without the aid of a hit, the Cougars rounded out their scoring with a single run in the bottom of the seventh.  With two outs, sophomore Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J.) singled to left, bringing home Ammirata, who reached on a walk.

Rutgers-Newark (18-17-1, 7-9 NJAC), who out-hit the Cougars (8-7), were led by freshman Matt Citro (Bloomsbury, N.Y.) and senior Doug Ford (Neptune, N.J.) who each recorded two hits on the afternoon.

Southpaw Kevin Matawa (Wood-Ridge, N.J.) suffered the loss for the Scarlet Raiders.  Matawa (4-4) allowed four runs, all earned, and five hits in six and two thirds innings of work.  He also struck out four and walked five.

Kean will return to action on Saturday, April 26th as they face off against The College of New Jersey in the NJAC regular season finale beginning at noon at Jim Hynes Stadium.
