Women's Lax Hangs on for 14-13

RIVERDALE, N.Y. (4/26/08) - Junior attack
Stephanie Cirino (Warminster, Pa.) netted six
goals and freshman Amanda South (Fairless,
Pa.) added five goals to lead the Kean University women's
lacrosse team to a 14-13 victory over host College of Mount Saint
Vincent on Saturday afternoon in Skyline Conference action .
Freshman Rosalia Romeo (Ridgewood, N.J.) added
one goal and a game-high three assists for the Cougars (13-4, 4-1
Skyline), while Lauren Perla led Mount Saine Vincent (7-7,
3-1 Skyline) with three goals and two assists.
It was a game of runs, as Mount Saint Vincent opened the game
with four straight goals before the Cougars netted the final seven
of the first half and nine unanswered spanning the first and second
halves en-route to a 12-6 lead with 20:53 remaining.
After Perla broke the Kean scoring run with a goal with 20:03
left in the game, the Cougars
scored two straight before Mount Saint Vincent scored six goals in
the final seven minutes of the game.
Cirino tied the single season program record with her
69th goal of the season, while her 87 points are tied
with Romeo for the single-season points record.
Freshman Ashlie Berghold (Boyertown, Pa.) made
nine saves for the Cougars in the victory, while sophomore
Chelsea Davis (Livingston, N.J.) (pictured right)
had six draw controls, five caused turnovers and four
groundballs.
The Cougars have already clinched a spot in the Skyline
tournament and await the conference regular season finale between
Montclair State University and Mount Saint Vincent to determine the
seeds in the upcoming Skyline Conference tournament.
