Cougars Swim Past Dolphins, 12-1

Union, N.J. (4/8/08) - Senior Eric Ammirata (Hamilton, N.J.) was 3-for-3 with four RBI to lead #8/11 Kean University to a 12-1 victory over visiting College of Staten Island Tuesday afternoon at Jim Hynes Stadium in non-conference action.

Senior Maikel De La Rosa (Newark, N.J.) was 2-for-2 with four runs scored for the Cougars who improve to 22-6 overall.  Junior Anthony Piccirillo (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished with two of CSI's six hits as the Dolphins fall to 8-10.

After scoring a single run in the bottom of the first, KU got all the runs they would need in their half of the second.  With the bases loaded, senior Ryan Clark (Livingston, N.J.) (pictured right) delivered a two RBI single to left-center.  Later in the inning, Ammirata and senior Bryan Burke (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) recorded an RBI a piece registering bases-loaded walks.  Sophomore Mike Moceri (Yardville, N.J.) rounded out the scoring with a two RBI single to right field.

CSI scored their only run of the game in the top of the fifth as senior Matt Thompson (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded a bases-loaded RBI fielders choice, brining home Piccirillo.

Sophomore Tom Abair (Old Bridge, N.J.) earned his first win of the season after tossing five innings.  He (1-0) allowed three hits and one run while fanning five and walking five.  Sophomore Bobby Tretola (Union, N.J.) and juniors Matt Grinkevich (Allentown, N.J.) and Kyle Murphy (East Hanover, N.J.) combined for the final four innings of work allowing just three combined hits and no runs.

Sophomore Andrew DePaulo (Staten Island, N.Y.) suffered the loss after tossing one and a third innings allowing six runs and five hits.

The Cougars return to action on Thursday, April 10th when they take on the Red Hawks of Montclair State University beginning at 3:30 p.m.
