Cougars Get Past Baruch, 72-70
New York, N.Y. (1/21/09) - The women's basketball team
survived a late Baruch rally to record a 72-70 non-conference
victory on Wednesday night at the ARC Arena in New York City.
Kean, ranked #24 in the D3hoops.com poll and tied at #22 in the USA
Today/ESPN Div. III Coaches poll, led for most of the contest and
held a comfortable 68-57 advantage with only 1:42 left on the
clock.
Baruch went on a last minute 13-2 rally to tie the game (70-70)
with Awa Diop connecting on her sixth 3-pointer of the
evening with 36 seconds left.
Ebony Jackson (Newark,
N.J.) (pictured right) scored on KU's next possession with
a jumper inside the paint for a two-point lead with 11 seconds
remaining.
Baruch had the final possession and raced down the court, but
missed their final two attempts.
Kean (14-3) dominated the scoring in the paint (28-14) and received
balanced scoring with four players in double-figures to earn their
14th win of the season.
Cardiss Jackman
(Tobyhanna,
Pa.) led the Cougars with a
double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) in 38 minutes of action,
while Angelica Bermudez
(Belleville,
N.J.) added a double-double of
her own with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Danielle Brown (North
Brunswick,
N.J.) (pictured left) missed a
double-double with 13 points, nine rebounds, five blocked shots and
four steals. Jackson, who hit the winning jump shot, finished
with 12 points and also contributed seven assists and eight
rebounds.
Kean will resume conference action on Saturday afternoon when they
take on the Red Hawks of Montclair State at 1 p.m.
