Women's Hoops Falls to Scranton

Kean Falls to Scranton at Days Inn Tournament

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (1/3/09) - Sophomore forward Tiffany Patrick (Piscataway, N.J.) finished with a team-high 13 points, however the Kean University women's basketball team was unable to overcome solid second-half shooting by University of Scranton in a 77-52 loss in the championship game of the Days Inn Tournament hosted by Gettysburg College on Saturday afternoon.

Patrick (pictured right) connected on 6-of-9 from the floor to lead #8/9 Cougars (9-3), while sophomore guard Megan Kopecki (Millington, N.J.) earned tournament most valuable player honors after scoring a game-high 23 points for Scranton.

The Lady Royals led for most of the contest, extending their lead to as many as 12 points in the first half before Kean closed the half on a 16-7 run to pull within 33-30 at halftime.  Patrick and senior guard Ebony Jackson (Newark, N.J.) each had seven points at the half, while Kopecki and sophomore Jennifer King (Taylor, Pa.) each had eight points for Scranton.

Kean cut the deficit to two points on a free throw by junior Danielle Brown (North Brunswick, N.J.) to open the second-half scoring, however a 13-2 run by the Lady Royals pushed the lead back out to double-figures and the Cougars were unable to trim the deficit back to single digits the rest of the way.

For the Cougars, Jackson finished with nine points, five rebounds and four assists, while Brown added nine points and a team-high six rebounds.  Junior Olivia Triano (Keyport, N.J.) (pictured left) had a career and team-high five assists in a season-high 19 minutes of action off the bench.

King finished with 10 points for the Lady Royals, and senior center Molly Klusek (Philadelphia, Pa.) had a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

The two teams could face each once more this season if a regularly-scheduled game from December 19th that was postponed due to inclement weather in made up.

Kean gets back into New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Wednesday, January 7, when the Cougars host Rowan University.
