Triano Nets Hat Trick in 3-1 Win
Over Ramapo
UNION, N.J. (10/3/09) - Sophomore Olivia Triano
(Keyport, N.J.) netted all three goals in leading the Kean
University field hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Ramapo College
in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars (9-1, 2-0 NJAC) won their fifth straight game, while
Ramapo fell to 3-6 overall, 0-1 in the conference.
Triano, who recorded her second career hat trick, opened the
scoring in the 20th minute with an unassisted goal for
the 1-0 lead.
Less than 10 minutes later, she scored what would prove to be
the game-winner following a penalty corner. Junior
Erica Kelly (West Deptford, N.J.) initiated the
corner to Triano(pictured right), who fired the shot from the top
of the circle into the back of the cage for the 2-0 lead with 7:31
remaining in the first half.
The Roadrunners trimmed the lead in half with less than 10
minutes remaining in the game when freshman Samantha Gardner
(Frankfort, N.J.) scored off the assist from sophomore
Jayne Manigrasso (Atlantic Highlands, N.J.).
Triano answered with the insurance goal five minutes later,
dribbling through the Ramapo defense to just in front of the cage
for the 3-1 lead with less than five minutes to go.
Kean held a slight 13-10 advantage in shots, while both teams
had eight penalty corners apiece.
In goal, junior Lauren Dobbs (Palmyra, N.J.)
made one save in the victory, while Ramapo senior Megan Tierney
(Wayne, N.J.) stopped five shots.
Kean returns to action on Saturday, October 10, when the Cougars
travel to Haverford College for a non-conference game at 1 p.m.
