Men's Basketball Pushes Past John

Brian Lytle (Union, N.J.) recorded 13 points and
nine rebounds to help the Kean University men's basketball team to
their first win of the young 2009-2010 season, 66-53, over host
John Jay College.
Kean (1-1) opened the contest by scoring the first 10 points of
the game and led 10-0 with just under five minutes gone by.
The Cougars led most of the way in the first half. But John Jay
hung around and with Kean leading 14-8, the Bloodhounds used a 12-2
run to take a 20-16 lead with 5:36 to go. Freshman guard Darryl
Dennis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) gave the Bloodhounds a 17-16
advantage with 6:44 to play on a three-point field goal. Then
moments later Williams, knocked down a trifecta at the 5:36 mark of
the half to give John Jay its biggest lead of the night.
Kean eventually reclaimed the lead with three straight baskets
capped by a monstrous dunk by Jonathan Jones
(Linden, N.J.) who had a game and team-high 15
points for the Cougars. KU eventually closed out the half
outscoring John Jay 15-2 to take a 31-22 lead at halftime.
Kean opened the second half on a 10-2 run to complete a 25-4 spurt
to give the Cougars a 17-point lead, 41-24, with 16:07 to play.
The Cougars were paced by Jones and Akinwande Oshodi
(Florence, N.J.) with 15 points each, while
Mike Shaughnessy (Linwood, N.J.) had 10 assists in
the win.
