Second Half Surge Sends Rowan Past

(2/7/09) - Five
players scored in double figures to lead Rowan University over Kean
University, 87-55 in NJAC action on Saturday afternoon.
Kean drops to 11-12 on the season and 4-7 in the NJAC.
Forward Brian Lytle
(Union,
N.J.) scored 12 points to lead
the Cougars. Rowan improves to 11-11 overall and 4-6 in the
conference with the win. Forward Tyson Hartnett
(Medford, N.J.) was the
scoring leader with 26 points.
In the first half, freshman Michael Oglesby
(Neptune,
N.J.) nailed a three at 9:37 to
close the gap to nine (22-13). After Rowan went up by 13
points (31-18) with 6:34 remaining, the Cougars pulled within five
points (32-27) at 4:47 after a three by guard Vinnie
Darpino (Colonia,
N.J.). The Profs closed the
period on a 10-5 run to lead 42-32 at the intermission. Lytle
(pictured right) led KU with seven first half points while junior
Dean Hughes (Pemberton, N.J.) added six.
In the second half, Rowan pulled away with 14 straight points in
a four minute span for a 29 point advantage (67-38). The
Profs outscored the Cougars, 45-23 in the final 20 minutes, with 18
points from the charity stripe.
Kean will take a week off and return to action on Saturday,
February 14th for their final home game of the regular
season, slated for 3 p.m.
