Rowan Upsets Women's Hoops,
57-54
GLASSBORO, N.J. (2/7/09) - Forward Ashley Cieplicki
(Haworth, N.J.) converted a three-point play with 1.3 seconds
remaining to give Rowan University a 57-54 upset victory over
#17/19 Kean University in NJAC action on Saturday.
Kean tied things up at 54-54 following two free throws by
Cardiss Jackman (Tobyhanna, Pa.) (pictured right)
with 31 seconds left. Rowan held on for the last shot and Cieplicki
pulled down a rebound at the four second mark. She quickly put the
ball back in and was fouled with 1.3 seconds remaining. She sank
the free throw and the Cougars missed a desperation three-pointer
at the buzzer.
The Profs improve to 12-7 overall and 6-4 in the conference. The
Cougars fall to 18-4 overall, breaking a nine game winning
streak and suffer their first conference loss (10-1). Forward
Jessica Nimbley (Middletown,
N.J.) led Rowan with 15 points while Jackman
scored a game-high 24 points and had five steals for KU.
In second half action, Cieplicki's foul shot at the 15 minute mark
made the score 42-27. Kean went on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to
seven (42-35) at 11:49. Tiffany Patrick
(Piscataway,
N.J.) scored four points, Jackman
hit a three-pointer and senior Ebony Jackson
(Newark, N.J.) added a
free throw. The Profs had a 13 point advantage (50-37) before the
Cougars scored the next 11 points to come within two points (50-48)
with 2:34 on the clock. Jackson and Patrick each had four points,
while Jackman added three. Danielle Brown's
(North Brunswick,
N.J.) layup at 1:12 tied the game
(52-52). Nimbley had two foul shots (:53) before Jackman's two free
throws tied the game at 54.
In first half action and with the game tied 12-12 with12:52
remaining, Rowan scored 16 straight points over the next 8:48 to
take a 28-12 lead. A Prof layup as time expired gave Rowan a 15
point halftime advantage (35-20).
Patrick (pictured left) finished with 15 points and eight
rebounds while Jackson posted nine points, six boards and four
assists.
