Breckenridge, Fourre Rally Kean
Past Widener, 4-2
Union, N.J. (3/10/09) - Freshman Sam Fourre
(Scotch Plains, N.J.) earned his first win in his first
collegiate appearance as #4 Kean University rallied past Widener
University, 4-2, Tuesday afternoon at Jim Hynes
Stadium.
Fourre (1-0) earned the win in relief for the Cougars (8-1)
after tossing three and a third innings, allowing no runs and just
one hit. He struck out three and walked one. For the
Pride (4-5), junior Dan Gross (Coatesville, Pa.) suffered
the loss. Gross (0-2) allowed three runs, all earned, on six
hits. He did not walk a batter and fanned two.
Widener jumped on the board in the first inning with two
runs. Sophomore Tom DeAngelis (Pottstown, Pa.) got
things going with a leadoff single. Later with one out and
runners on the corners, junior Tom Connelly (Media, Pa.)
grounded out for the game's first run. Junior Colin
Keelan (Ellicott City, Md.) followed with an RBI single to
left. With two outs, the Pride proceeded to load the
bases, but starter Joe Rizzo (Staten Island, N.Y.)
got out of further trouble and forced freshman Dan Sieracki
(Cherry Hill, N.J.) to pop up and end the inning.
Kean tacked on a run in the bottom of the third as freshman
D.J. Breckenridge (Fair Haven, N.J.) led off the
inning with a single. After advancing to second on a
ground-out and swiping third, rookie Dylan Laguna (Edison,
N.J.) drove him home with a single up the middle.
The Cougars broke through and took the lead in the bottom of the
seventh as Breckenridge lined a shot down the rightfield line to
tie the game at two all. After stealing second, freshman
Nick Ramagli (Emerson, N.J.) drove him home with
an RBI single.
Kean added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth as
junior Jared Orgel (East Hanover, N.J.) laid down
a squeeze bunt with Nick Nolan (Linden, N.J.) on
third to drive home the final run of the afternoon.
Closer Brandon Aich (Sayreville, N.J.) recorded
the final two outs of the afternoon to record his record-setting
fifth save of the season. With that save, and each save
forward, Aich will tack on to his own record, previously of four
last season, in the KU single-season record books.
Breckenridge (pictured left) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored,
an RBI and two stolen bases while Ramagli was 2-for-3 with an RBI
and stolen base.
