Men's Lacrosse Rallies Past
Widener, 7-5
UNION, N.J. (3/11/09) - Kean University scored
seven second-half goals to erase a 3-0 deficit and defeat Widener
University, 7-5, in non-conference men's lacrosse action on
Wednesday evening.
Junior midfielder Anthony Bertucci (Edison,
N.J.) scored four goals to lead the Cougars (3-2), while
sophomore Andrew Janusz (Easton, Pa.) netted two goals for
Widener (0-4).
Widener took a 3-0 lead at halftime after scoring one goal in
the first period and netting two goals in the second, as senior
midfielder Justin Upp (Camden, Del.) had a goal and an
assist.
In the third period, the Cougars tied the game with three
straight goals, as Bertucci scored twice and senior midfielder
Josh Morales (Clifton, N.J.) tied the game at 3-3
with a goal with 2:28 left in the period.
Widener regained the lead to start the fourth period, as Janusz
scored with 10:05 remaining. The Cougars took the lead for
good scoring four straight goals, as Bertucci (pictured right)
netted the first two, including the game-winner with 7:03 left for
the 5-4 advantage.
Senior Eric Gillar (Milltown, N.J.) added a
goal and two assists for the Cougars.
In goal, junior John Gesumaria (Cranford, N.J.)
stopped 13 shots, as Widener held a 35-24 edge in shots. For
the Pride, sophomore Kevin Carney (Ridley, Pa.) made seven
saves.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, March 14, when they
host Vassar College in non-conference action at 1 p.m.
