Women's Lacrosse Falls in Season
Opener
DANBURY,
Conn. (3/12/08) – In the season opener, the Kean
University women's lacrosse team fell to host
Western Connecticut State University, 13-6, on Thursday afternoon.
Freshman attack Nicole Torre (Toms River,
N.J.) (pictured right
) scored three goals in her first intercollegiate game to lead the
Cougars (0-1), while junior Kara
Kruczkiewicz (Brookfield, Conn.) netted the first three
goals of the game to lead the Colonials (1-0).
After the Colonials opened the game with those
three straight goals by Kruczkiewicz, Torre got the Cougars on the
board with her first goal with three minutes to go until halftime,
cutting the lead to 3-1 heading into the break.
The Cougars trimmed the deficit to 3-2 with
the first goal of the second half, however WestConn answered with
seven unanswered goals to extend the lead to 10-2 en-route to the
seven-goal victory.
For the Cougars, sophomore Amanda South (Fairless, Pa.) scored
twice, while rookie Gina Petrizzo
(Hopatcong, N.J.) made 10 saves in goal.
Kean returns to action on Saturday, when they
travel to Gwynedd-Mercy College for a non-conference game at 1 p.m.
